RECORD OF LODOSS WAR
EPISODE #7
"THE BATTLE OF THE HEROES"

	Narrator
The war between the gods of light and darkness reached a climax in
which the mother goddess of the earth, Marfa, and the malevolent goddess,
Kardis, battled to the end.
After the fierce battle, the two goddesses perished like a flame flickering
away on the newly created land which was separated by the battle.
This land was later named by the people as the cursed island, "Lodoss."

(episode title)

<Pan, Deid and Wood ride on horses with Vallis's soldiers>

	Wood
Hah, I guess we're safe here, since we're located next to the commanders
who happen to be the strong ones.

	Deid
You dummy, if we get into a battle, this is the most dangerous spot. The
enemy isn't going to attack from the sides.

	Wood
Why does that suddenly make sense to me?

	Deid
It's common sense in war.

	Wood
Of course, of course

	Pan
Heh

	Wood
Oh

	Messenger
I have something to say.
<He kneels before Faunn>
Lord Kashue's army's currently engaged in a fierce battle. Reinforcements
are needed.

	Faunn
What about the enemy's main force?

	Guard
Not in sight

	Faunn
Beld, so, you are using demons as your shield.

	Pan
Army troops of demons

	Deid
Beld is using demons at his disposal. They can range in the thousands or tens
of thousands.

	Pan
King Kashue

<Marmo fights army>

	Soldier
Here they come again.

	Kashue
Don't retreat. They're only beasts. Scowl, shout and fight back.
<He sees wyverns overhead>
Prince Jester

	Jester
As I expected, even a mercenary soldier king doesn't have eyes on the back
of his head.

<Wyverns attack upon the crowd of creatures>

KARLA'S DOMAIN

	Karla
It appeareth it hath begun.

BACK TO PAN AND DEID

	Deid
Sir Knight, it seems that your mind has travelled more swiftly than your
horse.
If you do not return your mind in time of need, you won't be able to fight.

	Soldier
This is a good luck charm from my son.

BATTLEFIELD

	Vagnard
What shall we do? If we let them go, they would rejoin the troops and
create a unavoidable problem.

	Ashram
Hmph, it's common sense to chase the quarry into the hunting grounds.
Your Majesty, the quarry is about to enter the hunting grounds.

	Pan
King Kashue

	Kashue
Have they arrived?

	Pan
Yes, they have.

	Beld
Faunn

<Marmo troops come upon the Vallis and Flaim's soldiers>

	Soldiers
We've been cornered.
This...
Here they come.

	Faunn
Beld

	Beld
Faunn

	Soldiers
There's another force behind us.

	Wood
This is bad. We're like rats in a trap.

	Deid
Pan, here they come.

<Ashram lifts his sword and the Marmo troops attack>

CARNAGE GROUNDS

	Eto
Pan

	Slayn
Go ahead, Eto.

	Eto
Slayn

	Slayn
There are only two choices if it can't be stopped now: jumping into the eye of
the storm, or avoiding it. It's one or the other whether these things come in
mountainous amounts. Now...

	Gim
Hmm
<He sees Eto leave on horse>
War will save Lodoss. How idiotic.

	Slayn
It's what Karla believes no matter whichever way it is. It's our fight,
different from the one of Pan and the others.

WORT'S CASTLE

<Wort reflects the meeting between Pan's group and Karla>

	Pan
You...you witch

	Karla
Didst King Faunn order thee to kill me?

	Pan
If you're gonna help Marmo to win, you're an enemy of the king.

	Karla
Then, shalt I help Vallis?

	Pan
What?

	Karla
It maketh not a difference to me. I have to thank Wort and Faunn for
meeting the new pawns on the board.

	Pan
Wort, is that how you feel too?

<end recall>

	Wort
That young man may be able to...

FAUNN'S CASTLE

	Messenger
Princess, the messenger has reported that the Vallis army troop is in a
desperate battle. If they...

	Fianna
I understand.

BACK TO THE BATTLEGROUND

	Pan
<He sees Ashram>
It's him.
You
<He attacks Ashram who hits him out of the way. Pan falls>

	Ashram
A sword is not a toy.

	Pan
What?

	Ashram
Use it well.

	Pan
<He charges>
Damn you.

	Deid
Pan
<She throws daggers>

	Ashram
Ohh
Wait
Don't interfere.

<Ashram and Pan go at it again>

	Faunn
Beld

	Ashram
Wha'?

	Pan
Wha'?

	Faunn
Beld
Where are you?
Where are you?
Where are you?
Surely you have not forgotten my face, have you?
Surely you have not forgotten my face, have you?

<Ashram pushes Pan away from him and leaves. Pan runs after him>

	Pan
Wait.

	Deid
Pan

	Pan
Uh, wha'?

	Kashue
It seems the time to settle this once and for all has come.

	Faunn
Beld
Beld
Beld
Beld

<They meet each other face to face>

	Beld
It's been a while.

	Faunn
<He draws out his sword>
If we cannot return to the past, this is the only way, my old friend.

	Beld
As you wish, Faunn
<He draws out his sword>

<They fight>

	Faunn
Was there not any other way, Beld?

	Beld
I won't give Lodoss to you.

	Faunn
I have no intentions of conquest.

	Beld
Unification and conquest is the same in the end.

KARLA'S DOMAIN

	Karla
I can'st allow neither the unification or the conquest of Lodoss.

BACK AT THE BATTLEGROUND

	Pan
Your Majesty

	Wort
<He calls upon Pan, stopping time>
Pan, restrain Karla.

	Pan
Wha'? Ah, wha'?

	Wort
Pan

	Pan
W...Wort

	Wort
As long as she lives, Lodoss will have no peace, even if that battle ends.

	Pan
What?

	Wort
Karla believes it was for Lodoss. But, now...

	Pan
Are you saying if Karla's defeated, this fight can be stopped?

	Wort
I don't even know if it can be stopped, but the tragedy to come is likely.

	Pan
Tragedy? What do you mean?

	Wort
Karla does not think of herself now as a person. For 500 years, little by
little, her mentality has begun to put her "scale" out of order. If we leave
her alone as she is, a greater disaster is foreseen for Lodoss. To stop that
from happening, remove the circlet. That is her true form.

<Back to real time>

	Deid
Pan, what happened?

	Pan
Why did Wort...?

	Beld
Grown old, have we? Not a change.

	Faunn
I cannot go without witnessing your death.

	Beld
I was thinking the same thing.

<They attack each other. Faunn is killed by Beld>

	Ashram
Your Majesty

<Beld is killed by Karla>

	Karla
Conquest and unification is unfavorable for Lodoss.

<Lightening strikes Beld's body. Strong winds blow in>

	Kashue
Everyone take cover or we'll be blown away.

<Ashram takes Beld's sword. The ancient dragons are awakened>

	Pan
Your Majesty, uh, leaving him like this....

	Kashue
The dead shall be returned to the earth of Lodoss.
This is the fate of a knight.
This is war.

	Wood
The nameless are like dust with no one to offer flowers. Only those with
names are honored.

<Pan finds the guard with charm dead on the ground and recalls that phrase>

	Guard
This is a good luck charm from my son.

	Deid
Pan

	Pan
It can't...
This can't continue.....

	Wort
Restrain Karla. If you don't, an even greater tragedy may happen to Lodoss.

	Narrator
The fighting did not create anything; the fighting did not save anybody;
nevertheless, fighting is necessary now. Witnessing the heaps of corpses
covering the earth as far as he can see, the boy swore to confront the witch,
Karla.

If you plan to subtitle with this script, please mention that it was
translated by "LODOSS WARRIORS, 1991". Also do not forget that
if you subtitle, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE the subtitled copy. If you do, you
will be in the act of piracy and if you're caught, you'll be in serious
shit. Subtitled copies can be obtained from William Chow at
wchow@questor.wimsey.bc.ca as soon as they subtitles
it. (At least if you get it from Chow, you'll be assured of a
good subtitled copy and then a million different subtitled copies won't
be on the loose.)
Stay tuned for more Lodoss updates and scripts in the future.
